Brazilian Blowout: What It Is & What to Expect
Who it's for
- Frizzy, puffy or hard-to-blow-dry hair
- Wavy or curly hair you'd like smoother and easier to manage (it softens curl rather than erasing it)
- Anyone who wants faster styling and more shine
Smoothing vs. straightening vs. keratin
Smoothing treatments like the Brazilian Blowout reduce frizz and smooth the cuticle; they don't permanently change your curl pattern the way chemical relaxers or Japanese straightening do. "Keratin treatment" is a broad name for smoothing treatments in general; the Brazilian Blowout is a specific professional brand.
The appointment
- Clarifying shampoo to remove buildup
- Solution applied section by section
- Blow-dry, then flat-iron to seal
- Rinse and finish (your stylist will explain any timing for your first wash)
Aftercare
Use a sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner, and limit chlorine and salt water. Clarifying shampoos fade the treatment faster.

Common questions
How long does a Brazilian Blowout last?
Typically up to about 12 weeks, depending on how often you wash and the products you use.
Will a Brazilian Blowout make my hair straight?
It makes hair smoother and easier to blow straight, but it doesn't permanently straighten curls.
Can I color my hair with a Brazilian Blowout?
Yes. Many clients color first and do the smoothing treatment after. Ask your stylist about the best order and timing.
