Color Correction: What It Is & What to Expect
Common reasons for color correction
- Box dye built up over time, or a home-color mistake
- Banding, hot roots or patchy lightening
- Orange, brassy or green tones (Arizona pools can cause green on blondes)
- Going from very dark to blonde
What to expect
Your stylist will ask about your color history (be honest — box dye, henna and other products all change the plan), do a strand test if needed, and set realistic goals. The priority is the health of your hair. Big changes are often done in stages.
How to prepare
Bring photos of your goal and any recent color receipts or box details. Skip home color in the meantime.
At The Hair Lounge: Grace Sasso lists color correction as one of her specialties. Book a consultation first so she can plan your appointment time.
Common questions
How long does color correction take?
It varies a lot — it can be one long appointment or several. You'll get a plan at your consultation.
Can you fix box dye?
Often, yes, but box dye can be unpredictable to lift. A strand test and a staged plan keep your hair healthy.
